ArmchairQB.com seeks to increase the sophisticated sports fan’s knowledge and enjoyment of sports by analyzing sports media. The site, written for sports fans by sports fans, will provide fans with a list of sports to watch, books or magazines to read and web sites to visit.

ArmchairQB.com is possible through the hard work of three groups: the co-owners, front office and contributors.

George Stahl

Don’t let the picture fool you. Paraphrasing John Kruk, “I ain’t an athlete, I’m a broadcaster.”

As a matter of fact, my greatest athletic achievement is playing baseball for five years in a league for eight-to-10 year olds. Do the math. Hey, at least I got a special plaque for it.

But despite my athletic achievement(s), I’ve been doing sports broadcasts for many, many years. Every World Series since 1980? Been there. Super Bowls XV to XXXII? Done them. In fact, most of the major sporting events of the past 15 or so years, I’ve announced - in my head, from my home and to any unlucky friend or family member nearby.

Because of my broadcasting experience, Northwestern University anxiously grabbed me after a short stay on its waiting list. There, I honed my journalism skills and learned how to gamble on college games.

After graduating, I moved to the New York City area, where I now live with my beautiful wife, Teresa; work as a copy editor; and continue to broadcast. Hopefully, though, my broadcasting career won’t conflict with the web site.

Somehow, I don’t think it will.

Randy Williams

I was born in Paris in 1970 and my father quickly clothed me in burgundy and gold, though I didn’t learn “Hail to the Redskins” until I was two.

After moving to Peoria, Ill., in 1976, I immersed myself in sports as a fan and a participant. In fact, I still love the Chicago Cubs and basketball at Bradley, where my all-time hero, Hersey Hawkins, starred.

I spent four years in Denver before graduating from Morton (Ill.) Township High School in 1988. I then played offensive guard and tackle for the University of Illinois and Lehigh University before graduating from LU in 1993.

I landed a job in New York that year and currently work as an assistant news editor in the metropolitan area. I live in New Jersey with Ann, whom I married in October 1997.

My goal is to make ArmchairQB.com the best, most reader-friendly sports site on the Internet. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via e-mail. Thanks, Randy

Front Office:

This site would not be possible without the love, support and express written permission of our lovely wives, Teresa Stahl and Ann Williams. Not only have they provided advice, help and money, but they also have been willing to make numerous sacrifices for the site. (Really, how important is a social life?) As if living with sports-loving freaks wasn't bad enough, now they must endure their sports-loving freaks and this web site.

Thanks, Teresa and Ann, for giving us this new toy.

Contributors:

Bill Avington - Bill is an external relations assistant at a Philadelphia university. His love for sports is overmatched only by his love for his wife, Kay, and his daughter, Maura. How he is allowed to write for this web site with priorities like that is uncertain. To e-mail Bill, click here.

Greg Corcoran - A native of Boston, Greg is a golf addict and a voracious reader. He tends to pad his score a bit on the course but is a fine writer and a nice addition to ArmchairQB.com. Greg lives in New Jersey where he works as a liaison for a television station. To e-mail Greg, click here.

Sean Davis - One of ArmchairQB.com's more-recent additions, Sean has three common bonds with many of the other people on this page. Sean is a fine writer, works for some mystical news service in New Jersey and is a Boston sports fan. Unfortunately, when he, Greg and Lisa get together, the threesome bore us with endless stories about Bird, Orr, Teddy Ballgame and Ruth - as a pitcher. Uh, guys, you know Ruth did have some success as an outfielder. ... Anyway, to e-mail Sean, click here.

Tom Granahan - Tom was born and raised in Philadelphia, though that does not necessarily make him a bad person (but being an Eagles fan does). He has been married for three years to his lovely bride Cami and resides in New Jersey, where he covers the stock market for a financial news service.

Gregg Henglein - Gregg is ArmchairQB.com's first contributor from Long Island, and hopefully our last. This North Carolina State graduate (proof immediately unavailable) is a huge baseball fan whose love for the Mets is matched only by his hatred of John Rocker. To e-mail Gregg, click here.

David Kozo - David is an assistant news editor at a news service based in New Jersey. A lifelong resident of the Garden State, he attended the University of Richmond and married Caitlin in late September. Of late, David has become a bandwagon fan of the Houston Astros. To e-mail Dave, click here.

Chris Nichols - Born and raised in North Carolina, Chris only thinks about Tar Heels hoops 365 days per annum (unless it's a leap year). He claims to have graduated from UNC but the sheepskin has never been produced. When he's not reviewing games for AQB, Chris works as a copy editor for a New Jersey news service. To e-mail Chris, click here.

Scott Petrak - A huge Cleveland and Northwestern University sports fan, Scott fits nicely with this site, which seems to attract fans of the most infamous losers in sports. We have fans of the Cubs (Randy), Red Sox (Greg, Lisa and Sean), Philadelphia teams (George, Bill and Tom), and now Cleveland. Also like many others at ArmchairQB.com's staff, Scott loves golf and writes a weekly golf column for a suburban Cleveland paper, for which he is also a sports writer and editor. To e-mail Scott, click here.

Lisa Reynolds - A big college basketball fan, Lisa lends a female voice to the sadly male-dominated AQB staff. Unfortunately, she also has the distinction of being our only writer who roots for Jim Boeheim and Syracuse. But wait, her sports misfortunes don't end there - she's a Boston native and a big-time Red Sox fan. When Lisa isn't cursing her sports luck, she works as a copyreader in New Jersey. To e-mail Lisa, click here.

Darren Rovell - A Northwestern student, Darren joins George and Scott as the third Wildcat on AQB's staff. When he is not contributing pieces on sports business for the site, Darren is sports director and broadcaster of NU football and basketball on WNUR 89.3 FM in Evanston, Ill. His sports business show on WNUR begins its second season in September. To e-mail Darren, click here.
