Joe Carter Joins ESPN Lineup It didn’t take long for Joe Carter to find another job. Hours after making the final out in the San Francisco-Chicago game Monday night, the former Giant agreed to join ESPN as a Major League Baseball analyst for the 1998 post-season. Ironically, Carter’s first telecast will be Wednesday’s game one between the Cubs and the Atlanta Braves, whom Carter’s Giants would have played had they won Monday night. Carter will work the game with Jon Miller and replace Joe Morgan, who will be doing the Texas Rangers-New York Yankees game later in the day for NBC. Carter also may do other Division Series telecasts with Miller on Oct. 3 or Oct. 4. This isn’t Carter’s first swing at broadcasting. Last season, he provided analysis during the playoffs on ESPN Radio and ESPNews. Carter, who retired as a ballplayer after Monday’s popup, ended his 17-year career with 396 home runs, 1,445 runs batted in and a .259 batting average. The 38-year-old compiled those numbers while playing for six teams - Chicago Cubs, Cleveland, San Diego, Toronto, Baltimore and San Francisco. The outfielder/first baseman is probably best known for hitting the game-winning/series-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth of Game Six against the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1993 World Series.
