Yanks Close Ex-Met Announcer Expected To Announce About 40 Games By George Stahl NEW YORK (AQB)--Start spreading the news - Tim McCarver may be changing New York teams. The (Bergen) Record of Hackensack (N.J.), the New York Post and New York Times reported this week that the baseball analyst is close to signing a deal that would allow him to call about 40 games for the New York Yankees this season. Expect a news conference Tuesday to confirm the signing.
The New York Mets last week fired McCarver, considered by many to be the best analyst in the game, after 16 years with the team. The Mets replaced him with Tom Seaver, considered by many to be the best Met in team history. McCarver, who will remain Fox's top baseball analyst, may miss at least eight Yankees games this season because of conflicts with the network's schedule.
