NEW
YORK (AQB)--Year 1 A.H. (After Hoss) for ABC's college football
coverage begins with the Pigskin Classic on Aug. 28 between
Arizona and Penn State, and ends with the National Championship
game at the Nokia Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4 between, hopefully,
the top two teams in the country.
Actually,
ABC's first year after the retirement of legendary announcer Keith
Jackson is the network's 34th straight year of covering college
football.
Under
the network's preliminary schedule - more games will be added
during the season - Big 10 powers Michigan and Ohio State appear
the most (four times).
ABC's
slate includes some impressive early-season games, such as Miami
vs. Ohio State in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium, Notre
Dame at Michigan on Sept. 4 and UCLA at Ohio State
at 8 p.m. EDT Sept. 11.
ABC's
October schedule is highlighted by two in-state rivalries at noon
EDT Oct. 9 - Miami at Florida State and Michigan at
Michigan State. A week later in the same time slot, Ohio
State crosses the border to battle Penn State in what
is expected to be a key Big Ten match-up.
Michigan
again is featured in November, when the Wolverines battle Penn
State in Happy Valley on Nov. 13 and host Ohio State
a week later. ABC also will cover the following familiar rivalry
contests: Texas at Texas A&M and Nebraska at Colorado,
both on Nov. 26, and Arizona at Arizona State on Nov. 27.
On
Dec. 4, ABC will televise the Big 12 and SEC conference championship
games.
Along
with the Sugar Bowl, ABC
also will cover the following bowls:
