NEW YORK (AQB)--The NBA Playoffs are upon us as NBC, TNT and TBS will broadcast up to 74 postseason contests.

For the first time, the NBA playoffs begin on NBC with back-to-back tripleheaders on May 8-9, including the New York at Miami on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EDT and Houston at the Lakers on Sunday at 5:30.

Coverage will begin at noon both days with "NBA Showtime." A feature on the New York-Miami rivalry highlights Saturday's show with the rebirth of the Philadelphia 76ers to be studied on Sunday.

NBC will broadcast 24-39 playoff games. Last year, the network's 22 postseason games, excluding the NBA Finals, averaged a 7.7 rating and a 20 share. NBC has exclusive broadcast rights for the championship series as it begins its ninth season of NBA playoff coverage.

Turner Sports will show up to 35 games in just 27 nights on its TNT and TBS networks. Game coverage begins May 10 with double headers on the two stations.

This postseason, Turner unveils Court Vision, a virtual replay which allows viewers to see plays from angles that television cameras can't pick up. Also, the networks will seek to wire a celebrity or "relevant fan" in the stands for audio at each game.

This season marks Turner's fifteenth consecutive year of covering the NBA playoffs. Once again, Ernie Johnson will host coverage from the studio in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, ESPN Radio kicks off its fourth season of postseason NBA coverage Saturday afternoon with Jim Durham and Quinn Buckner broadcasting the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz.

On Sunday, Brent Musburger and Dr. Jack Ramsay will call the action as the Houston Rockets meet the Los Angeles Lakers. Joe D'Ambrosio is the studio host for both days of action on ESPN Radio.

ESPN Radio plans to broadcast each game of the conference finals and the NBA finals.
