Week 11: Skins, anyone?
By Randy Williams

My friends, the Guru experienced the joy and pain of NFL fandom last week.

I rode the crest of emotion as the truly mighty Skins rallied from a nine-point deficit with 1:39 remaining to take a 27-26 lead on a career-long 54-yard field goal by Cary Blanchard.

I was so delirious after the kick that I immediately made plans to tell my wife we'd have to name our second kid Cary and the third child Blanchard (Yes, kid #1 will still be called Joe Gibbs Williams.)

Alas, my heart sank as the bend-but-break Skins defense snapped like a lawn chair under my considerable girth, allowing Arizona to capture a 29-27 win with a last-second field goal. My thoughts were immediately of Chief Redskin, in a sports bar 1,000 miles away, writhing in agony and speaking in tongues only I could understand.

You might think a two-point loss at this stage of a 1-8 season wouldn't matter. Incorrect, my friends. I spent Sunday evening staring at the walls, muttering to myself, the fresh image of defeat burned on my brain.

This week the Mighties face the only team they could beat nine times out of 10 - the putrid Philadelphia Eagles. Look for Norv & Co. to put a tall whipping on the boys from Crack, Pa. Skins, baby.

In other games I like the Giants (+8) against Green Bay; Indianapolis (+6) vs the Jets; Miami (-3) at Carolina; New England +2) hosting Buffalo; San Fran (-3) big at Atlanta; Pittsburgh (+1) in a revenge match against Tennessee; Minnesota (no line) vs Cincy; New Orleans (-2) against St. Louis; Oakland (+1) at home vs Seattle; San Diego (+1) over Baltimore; and Dee-troit (no line) against Chi-town.

In three big games, I'll take Jacksonville (no line) against Tampa; Dallas (-3) at Arizona; and, on Monday night, Kansas City (no line) over Denver.

Week 10 record: 6-8-0 (Not bad, huh?)
Season record: 47-57-3 (I could coach the Skins)
Norv T's record: 27-45-1 (Next stop: the Birds)
George's NCAA record: 80-88-1 (Click for Saturday Selections, if you dare)

Tell the Guru what you think of his selections at AQB's Speak Out board.
