Week 8: Guru
Eyes Return
By Randy Williams
My friends,
the Guru is enjoying the bye week,
reclining on the coach with my wife, a truckload of Tostitos and
the Domino's man at my beck and call.
Last week was painful indeed. The exquisite Lady Fanwood came to
pick me up at my local sports bar after I'd watched the Vikings
lambast my once-mighty Skins, 41-7.
Unfortunately, she found me curled on the floor in the fetal
position, clutching to a mustard-stained chicken finger, crying
like a newborn and muttering, "Gibbs...Gibbs...Gibbs...Gibbs."
When the Skins return to "competition" next week, so will
the Guru, doling out predictions and insults as I was born to do.
But, as a teaser, I bring you my predictions for this week's games.
First off, I love the New York Jets (-3) against Atlanta
and ancient QB Steve Deberg. Don't tell me Deberg's experienced
- he takes the same medication as my grandmother, for goodness sakes.
I also like Miami (-1) against New England, because the Pats
struggle in sunny conditions; Green Bay (-10) against a Ravens
team that's due to get spanked like a red-headed stepchild (with
apologies to my carrot-topped son, Bocephus); Detroit (+5) vs
Minnesota, a team that's ready for a letdown after squeeking by
the Skins in week 7; and Tampa Bay (-3) over the Saints,
on the highway to a 5-11 record.
I'll also take San Francisco (-9) against St. Louis. The
Niners beating the Rams is like death and taxes, my friends. In
other games, I'm picking Chicago (+6) over Tennessee;
Jacksonville (+7) over Denver; Seattle (-6) against San
Diego; Oakland (-2) over Cincy; Buffalo (+2) over
Carolina; and, on Monday night, Pittsburgh (+6) over Kansas
City.
